A recent exploration trip to Uweinat resulted on the discovery of a PREHISTORIC SETTLEMENT within the confine of Karkur Talh. The trip was led by Zarzora Expedition senior guide, Wael Abed in favor of Kel 12-Italy. Luca, a member of the expedition, was the first to sight the circled dwellings, nestled above the wadi's course. upon examing the site, there turned to be a number of houses/shelters built with sandstone slabs and are in perfect condition. we also found massive rocks with engravings. A trip is planned to further examine the area in the next fall.

As part of the Uweinat Mountain Expedition, a two-day excursion was made to visit some of the rock-art sites within the confines of Karkur Talh valley.

A New Year trip was organized by Zarora Expedition, in favor of Trekking Italia, to visit the oases of the Egyptian Sahara, traverse the dunes of the Great Sand Sea and to trek through the White Desert Protected Area. A joint Zarzora-Hauser expedition departed in November 2007 to traverse the greater part of the Egyptian Sahara. The trip, led by Col. Mestekawi, and members of Zarzora Expedition Unit I, deeply went into seldom visited tracts within Gilf Kebir and the Great Sand Sea. We were honored to have Mrs. Rosemarie Parks as the expedition lecturer.

Trekking Italia had a wonderful experience exploring the deserts of Egypt with Zarzora Expedition. The second of Trekking Italia’s journeys to the Egyptian Sahara was organized by Angela Petralia, in favor of 15 of the society members. In the company of Zarzora Expedition team, the group trekked for 15 days in Gilf Kebir National Park, the White Desert Protected Area and some new, yet to be named sites. Thanks to Angela for donating the pictures of this album.

This 2-page album, dedicated by our dear friends, Franca and Alberto, shows the first part of their trip with Zarzora Expedition in the Egyptian Sahara (from Cairo to the rock-art sites of gilf Kebir). The 16-day trip was led by Ahmed Mestekawi and this album, together with the ones below, show just a bit of what the Egyptian Sahara can offer.

Zarzora Expedition organized a special desert tour in favor of Trekking Italia, in late Decemeber 2006. An album by Jean-Pierre Connan who joined Colonel Mestekawi and Zarzora Expedition Unit 1 in a 17-day trip to Gilf Kebir, in the remote southwestern corner of Egypt. The trip that has just returned to Cairo took place between Nov. 06 and Nov. 22. Joined by a group from Hauser Exkursionen, the expedition visited Mestekawi Cave, Wadi Hamra and the Silica Glass corridors. Zarzora Expedition “The Desert Travel Company of Egypt”, exhibited at the Mediterranean Travel Fair in Cairo (MTF). The products promoted were a selection of specialty desert and oases tours and lodging services. The launching of a new product “Desert Deluxe” was kindly attended by H.E Mr. Zoheir Garana and the tourism press. H. E. General B. Rasheidy, Governor of the Red Sea and the former Govenor of the New Valley visited Zarzora Expedition’s booth and were received by Mr. and Mrs. Abed who represented the company at this fair.

Zarzora Expedition, the Desert-Travel Company of Egypt, is proud to announce the publishing of some of its most precious desert images, taken over a period of 11 years of traveling through the Egyptian Sahara. We shall add a single image per week, and looking forward to receiving your comments and rating.

In March 2006, while Prince Charles and Camilla were visiting the Egyptian Oasis of Siwa, a special 8-day desert trip was organized by Zarzora Expedition in favor of Dr. Fulvio Ognibene. This album shows most of the places visited during the tour (the Pyramids of Giza, the Baharia oasis, the White Desert Protected Area, Siwa Oasis, the Sallum Plateau and the Mediterranean coast of Egypt). The highlights of the trip included visits to the temple of Amasis in Baharia, the temple of the Oracle and the Mountain of the Dead in Siwa, and the viewing of the total Solar Eclipse at sallum.
